About This Photo

This image ended up being featured in Amateur Photographer of the Year, which was such an honour. I'd returned to this Angmering bluebell woodland multiple times that spring, and on this particular evening in late April, everything just aligned perfectly. The bluebells were at absolute peak bloom, carpeting the forest floor in this vibrant purple hue that seemed almost unreal.

What made this evening so special was the timing—I arrived just as the sun was setting, and the last rays of golden light were filtering through the trees in the most spectacular way. There was this clearing between the dense woodland, and the way the light streamed through created this natural pathway leading your eye through the sea of bluebells toward the vibrant sunset beyond. The contrast between the cool purples of the flowers and the warm golden light was absolutely stunning.

I'd been visualising this shot for weeks—waiting for the perfect combination of peak bloom, clear weather, and that magical evening light. When it all came together, I knew I had something special. The scene had this peaceful, almost ethereal quality, like the woodland was glowing from within.

When you look at this photograph, I want you to feel that sense of spring magic and tranquility—nature putting on its finest evening display, inviting you to walk through this carpet of bluebells toward the light, experiencing one of those fleeting seasonal moments that makes landscape photography so rewarding.
