About This Photo

The Four Falls Trail in the Brecon Beacons had been on my list for years, and when I finally made the trip in early November, I started with Sgwd Clun-Gwyn—the 'Fall of the White Meadow.' This spectacular waterfall is the first on the trail, and what a way to begin. The water tumbles over rugged rock formations with such power and grace, carving its path through the ancient woodland in the most dramatic fashion.

I'd timed my visit for autumn, hoping to catch the foliage at its peak, and the conditions were absolutely perfect. The trees surrounding the falls were ablaze with golden and amber tones, creating this beautiful warm contrast against the cool, flowing river. I found a vantage point above the falls that gave me this unique perspective—you can really see the dramatic drop and the swirling currents below, with the overhanging branches adorned in fiery autumn leaves framing the scene perfectly.

What struck me most was the mist rising from the water, adding this almost mythical quality to the whole scene. The sound of the cascading water, the scent of damp earth and autumn leaves, the cool spray on my face—it's one of those locations where all your senses are engaged. You can feel the power of the water while simultaneously being surrounded by the stillness of the ancient forest.

When you look at this photograph, I want you to feel that sense of awe and connection with nature's raw power—the rhythm of flowing water harmonising with the quiet beauty of the autumn woodland, creating one of Wales' most breathtaking natural spectacles.
