If you wait long enough, the right conditions for a photo will present themselves. That sums up landscape photography, it’s a waiting game. The pieces of the jigsaw need to match in order to see the final picture. You could wait weeks and months, maybe even years with a composition in your head. But the waiting pays off.
From the top of the Downs, I watched the mist roll gently across the fields, wrapping itself around the landscape like it had all the time in the world. The sun hadn’t been up all that long, but it was already putting in a shift, providing a perfect combination of soft diffused light and deep contrast.
What I love about this panoramic photo is that you can almost feel the mist, softly swaying. It gently ebbs and flows throughout the landscape, a layered flow and gracefully caresses everything it comes in to contact with. The centrepiece of Standalone, now off to the right, makes way for a wider view of the land, removing itself as the single point of focus so you can embrace the bigger picture, and a natural rhythm that feels quiet and complete. Everything is in motion and yet, nothing is urgent.
