About This Photo

On the same evening I captured the candyfloss skies over Worthing Pier, I turned my telephoto lens toward another local landmark—the iconic Dome Cinema. Built in 1911, this distinctive building with its copper dome has been a fixture of Worthing's seafront for over a century, serving as a cinema and entertainment venue through generations of change.

The soft evening light was perfect for this shot—those same gentle peach and pink tones in the sky creating a romantic backdrop for the Dome's classical architecture. I used my 200mm lens to isolate the building against the sunset sky, compressing the perspective to bring the dome closer and emphasize its elegant curves. The warm colours complement the building beautifully, highlighting its Edwardian grandeur.

What I love about including architectural subjects like this in my coastal photography is how they tell the story of these seaside towns. The Dome isn't just a pretty building—it's a piece of Worthing's cultural history, a place where countless locals and visitors have gathered for entertainment over the decades. Photographing it against this beautiful Sussex sunset feels like celebrating both natural and architectural heritage.

When you look at this photograph, I want you to feel that appreciation for the enduring beauty of British seaside architecture—buildings that have witnessed over a century of sunsets just like this one, standing as elegant reminders of a more gracious era.
