About This Photo

Sometimes the most interesting subjects are the ones we usually overlook. I'd walked past this outfall pipe dozens of times on Worthing beach without giving it much thought. But one February evening, arriving for what I thought would be a standard sunset shoot, the golden hour light transformed this industrial structure into something unexpectedly beautiful.

I set up my tripod low to the beach, using a 15-second exposure to smooth the water around the pipe. The warm evening light caught the metal and concrete, creating gorgeous reflections in the wet sand and shallow water. What I love about this image is how it celebrates the intersection of human infrastructure and natural beauty—something we rarely stop to appreciate along our coastlines.

The English Channel stretches out beyond, calm and serene, while the pipe extends into the water like a purposeful line cutting through the soft blues and golds. It's a reminder that coastal photography doesn't always require grand piers or dramatic cliffs—sometimes beauty reveals itself in the everyday structures that serve our seaside communities.

When you look at this photograph, I want you to see the unexpected artistry in ordinary places. It's about finding composition, light, and texture in subjects that usually fade into the background of our coastal walks.
