This image means a lot to me. It’s the first time I’ve ever captured a full Milky Way arch — and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to do it than Cuckmere. There’s something about this spot that just feels like home when I’m behind the camera.
This was a late March night, and it took a bit of work to get it right — stitching the sky, balancing the foreground. I didn’t even realise how good it was going to be until I saw the test shots on the back of the camera. Then it all clicked — this was the one. From the classic white cottages to the Seven Sisters cliffs and that perfect arch above… it all just came together like a puzzle I didn’t even know I was solving.
I wanted to capture not just the Milky Way, but the feeling of standing there that night — the quiet, the vastness of the sky, and the way those cottages seem to sit so peacefully under it all. It’s a scene that really speaks to me about the beauty of our world, both up above and down here on Earth. When you look at this photograph, I want you to feel that magic—the quiet vastness of the South Downs night sky, with Cuckmere Haven's iconic coastguard cottages nestled beneath a complete Milky Way arch stretching from horizon to horizon. A total of 10 photos were used to create this final image — 6 for the foreground and 4 for the Milky Way sky.
