Valletta’s Hidden Alleys

There’s something about Valletta’s side streets that stops you in your tracks. I had every intention of exploring as many of these streets as I could while I was there. The heat was pretty unbearable though, so instead I found myself trying to get into some shade. You can find this street at the top of Valletta, right by the Barrakka Gardens. It pulled me in with its vibrance, charm and that classic Mediterranean character. The street had a really great vibe. The stone steps leading down between the buildings with their bold blue and green balconies that really stood out in the sun.

There’s so much of character here. It’s the kind of place you’d stop to take in for a while and notice the little things. Things like the plants, their terracotta pots, that textured limestone everywhere, and a proper old-school Maltese feel.

The further you look, the more details you notice—plants carefully placed in terracotta pots, iron railings, tiny balconies with laundry lines and flower boxes. It’s everyday life tucked into centuries of history.

It’s one of those places that reminds you why you pick up a camera in the first place—to capture what it feels like to be there.
