Crimson Keep

Magenta Pillars

This gorgeous photo came together in the space of about two minutes and that’s no exaggeration, it was a moment that came and went in the blink of an eye.
I’d been watching the aurora all day, keeping tabs on the activity.
It had been highly charged throughout most of the day but as the evening rolled in, the polarity flipped and the energy just collapsed. What had been a promising forecast suddenly became uncertain.

Hiorne Tower in Arundel was the location that I had chosen during the day. There’s something timeless about it, standing tall on the South Downs. I knew it would be a good fit to contrast with the lights. Having set up and tested a few compositions, there was a bit of a waiting game. As I have said, the forecast was shifting, doing a dramatic 180 degree turn and, what was once a guarantee was quickly becoming an unlikely.
Nevertheless, I waited patiently. I couldn’t see much of the colour in the sky. It definitely had a slight purple tint, but there wasn’t much activity to make it worthwhile.
Then as if out of nowhere, and for no more than a couple of minutes, a couple of soft magenta pillars started forming behind the tower. I couldn’t make much out with my eyes, but the camera was picking it up perfectly. Not wanting to waste any time I quickly got to getting the photo, marking it’s place in history.

It was the third time I’d photographed the aurora from the south coast, but my first time doing it here, and despite being the weaker display of the 3, it turned out to be equally rewarding.

Why Choose This Print?
This is for those who know and understand the value of, and are looking for a symbol of patience. It’s for those who show up even when the skies seem uncertain. Crimson Keep captures a softer, more introspective side of the aurora, blending ancient stone and fleeting light into a scene that feels both grounded and dreamlike. It’s a reminder that even when the show is subtle, the story can still be powerful.

Important Information

Cropping

Please note that some cropping may occur depending on the size you choose for your photo. This is because different sizes have different aspect ratios, which affect how the photo fits on the paper, canvas or glass. I will try to preserve as much of the original photo as possible, but some edges may be cut off to avoid distortion or blank spaces, or to accommodate the chosen size.

Colour Reproduction

Also, please be aware that colours may vary from what you see on your screen to what you receive in print. This is because different screens have different settings and calibrations, which affect how colours are displayed. Additionally, printing techniques and materials may also cause some slight differences in colour reproduction and saturation. The labs I print with use high-quality printers and papers to ensure that the photo looks as close to the original as possible, but some minor variations are inevitable and normal. If you have any questions or concerns about the colours of your photo, please contact me before you place your order.

Returns and Refunds

Due to the nature of my products, I do not offer refunds or returns after the sale. However, I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise.
